Course Description and Goals:
This one-credit course, the first in a series of three, provides an introduction to the multiliteracies approach and its application in K-16 world language instruction. The goals of the course are to equip participants with conceptual knowledge of the multiliteracies approach and to provide opportunities to link theory and practice by applying conceptual knowledge to creating instructional materials for classroom use. In particular, this course focuses on the role of textual learning, i.e., of teaching language through the use of authentic documents, in world language instruction. Taught in English.
